Exhibition of navigation history

Are there ships without anchors? No! Exactly like there are no anchors without a chain attaching them to the ship. Earlier anchors were attached with thick ropes that usually were too weak to withstand heavy weathers. Therefore anchors used to sink and remain on the sea bed for ages. Modern anchors are attached with steel chains weighing thousands of tons.

Exhibition of navigation history is displayed in the Nerija fort, where the richest collection of anchors in Lithuania is exposed. Exhibition arranged in posterns, casemates and caponieres highlight the efforts to create the Lithuanian Fleet, show the major maritime disasters and traces of the era of sailboats in Klaipėda, and unveil the unknown pages of the history of navigation in Lithuania.
